Artist Biography
sato was born in natural rich town of Hokkaido. Parents and relatives had to say that he had excellent aesthetic sense from childhood.
He learned the design by Tohoku Institute of Technology and underwent influence of a Japanese illustrator in 80 's greatly. Moreover he hoped to study, and after university graduation, went to Chiba University graduate school. He learned more designs until a DE number was acquired by a Master's course and a Doctoral course. What he learned from Saiji Kanamori and Ryoichi Shigeta has helped a lot after he became an artist. The viewpoint of the representational painting was learned from Saiji Kanamori and the viewpoint of the abstraction art was learned from Ryoichi Shigeta. sato expands the width of the expression into manifoldness at present without discrimination of concrete art, abstract art. Its cause dates back in school days, and it's possible to understand.
He became a freelance designer after the graduate school, but the one year later became an engineer. He started a personal office independently soon.
He moved to Hokkaido Sapporo in 2006. The Great East Japan earthquake has happened in 2011. Because it was enrolled in a university of the Tohoku and Kanto area, he couldn't think as a somebody else's problem, and felt deep anxiety and thought to have. But nothing is made and he has begun to draw his hand to hope. sato determined on beginning to come into action as an artist at the same time. Art activities of sato became synonymous to a prayer at the same time.
It's because he thought he’d like to be anonymous that he has decided to introduce oneself as sato when beginning art activities. Originality seems strong in a work of sato, but he is thinking there will be no techniques and methods which aren't performed by present-day art any more. Therefore sato doesn't emphasize anything as originality. It's being hoped that he'd like to be someone's other spokesmen in a compensation. Artist's face doesn't like being shown on every aspects of life for it. It's also for it that S is lowercase.
sato professes a contemporary artist from the same reason, but he doesn't profess an avant-garde artist.
When art activities were begun, there was request of a picture from friends in the whole Japan, and it was being drawn one after another.
Three years from 2012 to 2014 he produced a calendar in a beauty salon every month. He has trained a fashionable style based on the experience from which the design was learned.
He participated with 2012 (copper engraving) and 2013 (croquis) in a group exhibition and held a solo exhibition in 2014 at last. Sapporo international art festival 2014 (guest director: Ryuichi Sakamoto) was held in a simultaneous period, and it was approved as related event.
All works of sato are exhibited for foreign countries in facebook. He participates in an art group of more than 70 and has a persistent fan in all over the world. An abstract painting of sato was estimated first overseas in particular. After doing basic training of a croquis daily, sato keeps drawing an abstract painting, not sticking to a subject matter for a painting and a style and drawing freely by the way to draw by a right brain.
sato begins to start overseas operations to come near and release a work widely. He is aiming at more work announcements at foreign countries from now on in 2015.
When doing future's activity, sato regards Gerhard Richter as an ideal artist. It's also possible also to draw a good representational painting dreadfully and draw an abstract painting, and moreover he's also dealing with a solid work and agrees with directionality of sato.
アーティスト・バイオグラフィー
ｓａｔｏは北海道の自然豊かな町で生まれた。子供の頃から美的感覚が優れていたと周囲の大人は語っている。
東北工業大学でデザインを学び、80年代の日本人イラストレーターの影響を大いに受けた。大学卒業後、さらに勉強することを願い、千葉大学大学院に進学した。修士課程、博士課程で工学博士号を取得するまでさらにデザインを学んだ。この間に金森宰司、重田良一など複数の芸術家の教えを受けたことが、後に芸術家になってから大いに役立っている。金森宰司からは具象芸術の視点を学び、重田良一からは抽象芸術の視点を学んだ。現在satoは具象、抽象の別なく多方面に表現の幅を広げているが、その下地は学生時代に遡ることができる。
大学院終了後、フリーランスのデザイナーとなったが、その一年後に研究所から声がかかり、研究員となった。やがて独立して個人事務所を立ち上げた。
2006年に北海道札幌に移住した。2011年に東日本大震災が起こった。東北や関東の大学に在籍していたことから他人事とは思えず、彼は深い不安を感じ、何かをしなければならないと考えた。だが、何もできず、結局、祈るために自分の手を描き始めた。この時に、satoは芸術家として活動を始めることを決意した。この時にsatoの芸術活動は祈りと同義となった。
芸術活動を開始する際にsatoと名乗ることに決めたのは、アノニマスでありたいと考えたためである。Satoの作品は独自性が強いと思われるが、現代の芸術で行われていない技法、手法はもう無いとsatoは考えている。そのためsatoは独自性というものを重視していない。その代わりに他の誰かの代弁者でありたいと願っている。そのためには作家の顔が前面に出ることを嫌う。Sが小文字であるのもそのためである。
また、同じ理由から、satoは現代芸術家を自称するが前衛芸術家とは自称していない。
芸術活動を始めると全国の友人から絵の依頼があり、次々に描いた。
2012年から2014年までの三年間は美容院のカレンダーを毎月制作した。デザインを学んだ経験に基づいておしゃれな作風に磨きをかけてきた。
2012年（銅版画）、2013年（クロッキー）とグループ展に参加し、ついに2014年に個展を開催した。同時期に札幌国際芸術祭2014（ゲストディレクター：坂本龍一）が開催され、関連事業として認可された。
Satoの芸術作品はすべてfacebookで海外に向けて公開されている。60以上のアートグループに参加し、世界中に根強いファンを持っている。特にsatoの抽象画は海外で先に評価された。クロッキーなどの基礎訓練を日常的に行った上で、右脳で描く方法によってsatoは抽象画を描き、画材やスタイルにとらわれず自由に描き続けている。
より作品を広く発表するために、satoは海外進出を開始する。2015年は海外進出元年ととらえ、今後はさらに海外での作品発表を目指している。
今後の活動を行う上で、satoはゲルハルト・リヒターを理想の芸術家と考えている。彼はすさまじく上手い具象画も描き、抽象画も描くことができ、さらには立体作品も手掛けており、satoの方向性と一致する。
